Street lighting is one of the
most important things that a government provides to its citizens. It is a pre-requisite for urban
ambience, road safety and personal safety. It ensures visibility in the dark
for riders, drivers and pedestrians which in turn help in preventing road
accidents. This gives the citizens a sense of personal safety not only from
accidents but also from crimes. But providing this amount of light to the whole
city and the country as a whole affects the pockets of the government. But as
safety is more important than the money, the world has come up with a way that
saves the pockets and also provides the same amount of light. This effectual
way is LED Street Lighting.
LED's are perfect for
streetlights as they emit more directional light, meaning, the focus of the
light illuminates only the targeted area. This is certainly beneficial, but the
absolute gain in using these lights are that they are largely cost effective.
One of the reasons for them being economical is that they have a lengthy Lifecycle.
Studies suggest that the regular street lamps have a lifetime of 12,000 to
24,000 hours, which in comparison to LED lights is quite less, as they are
operational for a good 50,000 hours, which is approximately three to five times
more. The installation of a lighting system takes considerably less money than
the operation of the lighting system. When LED's don't need to be changed as
often, the cost of maintenance automatically reduces leading to the reduction
in the overall cost.
It is time that these LED lights
are taken into serious consideration and that our government takes measures to
incorporate them in our country.
