7 striking energy conservation tips-Plan for a better tomorrow

Energy conservation is a primary concern in the contemporary world, since the resources of non-renewable sources are becoming limited day by day. We should be conscious before it is too late and the precious resources are lost completely. We should join our hands together and participate in the program of energy conservation and contribute to the society. This blog tells you about the different ways in which you can conserve energy. These tips are extremely valuable for storing energy in domestic uses. All these tips will be beneficial for you since you will not only save energy but also money.

By following these tips you can significantly check your electricity bills.

1. Installation of a programmable thermostat:
With the help of a programmable thermostat, you can significantly be able to manage the cooling and heating systems thereby lowering your utility bills.

2. Unnecessary wastage should be avoided:
Make sure that you turn off the lights, fans, air conditioner, TV, etc of your room when you are leaving the room. You will be surprised to know that computers in standby mode consume much more energy when compared to the state of operating it.

3. LED lights:
Use LED lights instead of high power bulbs. The LED bulbs have been constructed by using new technologies based on the conception of low energy consumption.

4. Natural sources of lights:
Try to use natural sources of lights like sunlight when it is available and thus try to avoid using the electricity based lights.

5. Save the consumption of petrol:
Prefer walking to cover short distances than choosing your private car or bike to travel to such places. Beside this, choose the public means of transportation instead of private cars. This will help in conserving petrol which is a non-renewable source.

7. Reduce the use of ACs:
Use your air conditioner cautiously. Let the cool breezes enter inside your room by opening the window panes and the doors thereby allowing the interior of the room to cool down. Therefore reduce the usage of air conditioners.

Types of Renewable Energy

There are two types of energy resources found in Nature, Renewable and Non- Renewable.  As there name suggests non renewable are fossil fuels which cannot be replenished or re-used.
Whereas on the other hand renewable sources of energy are those which can be replenished such as wind and solar energy—and will never run out.
Discussed below are the renewable sources of energy

Solar

Most renewable energy comes either directly or indirectly from the sun. Sunlight directly or indirectly can be used for the purpose of heating and lighting homes. Can also be used for generating electricity, and for hot water heating, solar cooling, and a variety of commercial and industrial uses.

Wind

It is actually the sun that derives the winds as well, the energy is produced and harnessed with the help of the wind. whose energy is captured with wind turbines. The Earth's rotation also contributes to the winds, particularly through the Coriolis effect.

Biomass

The plants needs several essential component to grow on earth. Sunlight and water remains a crucial for the same. The organic matter that makes up those plants is known as biomass. Biomass can be used to produce electricity, transportation fuels, or chemicals. The use of biomass for any of these purposes is called biomass energy.

Hydrogen

Hydrogen is a crucial component that helps in generating living condition on this planet. It is found in many organic compounds, as well as water. It's the most abundant element on the Earth. But it doesn't occur naturally as a gas. It's always combined with other elements, such as with oxygen to make water. Once separated from another element, hydrogen can be burned as a fuel or converted into electricity. Because energy is always needed to produce hydrogen, hydrogen is not in itself an energy source, but rather a way to store and transport energy, so it is often referred to as an energy carrier.

Other than these resources we also have Geothermal, Ocean, Hydropower

Energy Saving Tips to Use Throughout the Year

The decreasing foot prints of fossil fuel is one of the greatest concern of our times. The energy producing resources   namely, non renewable have been exhausted at an constant rate resulting in this crunch. On the other hand the burning of these fuels causes several reactions out of which production of heat is the most common. This heat Conjures up a phenomenon called global warming, that has endangered the Glaciers and other frozen areas and bodies resulting in the rise of water level of the existing water bodies and endangering species  and hence disturbing the ecological model of the nature.

But there are a few ways we can tackle the challenges of these hideous problems. Below given are few energy saving tips:-

·         Use fans instead of air conditioner all the time.
·       Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent ones. They last up to ten times longer and can use a quarter of the energy.
·       Plug electronics into a power strip and flip off the switch when the gadgets aren’t in use. (make sure this won’t mess up clocks and recordings.)
·        Always turn off all your computer components that we usually forget or lazily don’t. Also set the computer's sleep mode for when the computer is idle for just a little while. By doing these two simple acts, you will use about 85% less energy each day.
·         Simply switch off the light whenever not in need or you leave the room.
·         Set the thermostat to no lower than 78°F in the summer and no higher than 68°F in the winter.
·         You can use natural light by placing  your desk next to a window instead of a lamp.
·         Close your curtains to keep out daytime summer heat or keep in nighttime winter warmth.
·         Turn off the TV or video game console and play outside.
·         Always turn off your cars and other vehicles when waiting for  that light to turn green.
·         Ride a bike or walk instead of using the car.
·        Carpool

These are simple and very effective tips to preserve and save out beautiful planet.

Energy Issues & Poverty in the Modern World

In the age of Smartphones, Online Social networking, we have instant access to information and constant means of communication. For us it is difficult to imagine life without these luxuries, but for a large portion of the world these technologies are not only a rarity, but an impossibility, as there is no access to electricity. Be it cause of lack of means or awareness. Ever wondered about the extent of affect electricity over-consumption has on our society?
Energy poverty is a lack of access to modern energy services which are crucial to human well-being and to a country’s economic development.

According to a recent IEA and UNDP report, over1.5 billion people do not have access to electricity; 585 million of them living in Sub-Saharan Africa and 404 million in India. Three billion people i.e. almost half of the world’s population, rely on biomass, such as wood, charcoal, and dung for cooking and heating purposes. A lot of developing nations have people using dirty or polluting fuels, spending excessive time collecting fuel to meet basic needs which is hazardous to health in the long run.
Countries cannot develop economically if a significant portion of the households/population is living in energy poverty.

Energy poverty is one of the least discussed aspects of our current energy challenge, yet it poses serious threats to economies, national security, the environment, and public health throughout the world. Thus, addressing this issue is very important. Solar energy should become vastly prevalent and awareness should be spread about the same. Technological innovation is needed to drive down the cost of such energy substitutes so they are competitive and easily accessible. Developed nations have a big role to play in assisting these developing nations to grow.
